Excursion Etna Craters at 3000 mt.

Meeting point: Bar Esagonal, Piazzale Funivia, near Rifugio Sapienza.

Gathering: 10:00 am, delivery of equipment, legal formalities, information from the volcanological bulletin of the INGV of Catania and tickets’ delivery, meeting with the volcanological or mountain guides.

Departure:  at 10:30/11:00 from the meeting point, we will take the new Etna cable car, reaching the altitude of 2500. There we’ll be able to start our trekking that will lead us trhough moon looking landscapes made out the neewest lava flows of 2001/2002 eruptions. Keep on walking we will see the latest eruption from December 2023, then we will visit an eruptive fracture, flow channel and effusive crater where warm spots are still going.

We will continue to visit a first explosive crater and visit yet another positioned around 3000 m altitude. From there, if weather conditions permit, we’ll have the opportunity to observe Calabria, the mountains and the interior of Sicily, therefore the entire eastern sicilian coast. We will cross the vulcanic desert to observe the Valle Del Bove and Cisternazza, depression borned thanks the earthquake.

We will flank an explosive crater and return to the cable car. Is gonna be a fantastic journey throuth geology and vulcanology, admiring the active craters of Bocca Nuova, Voragine, Northest crater and South East at safe distance.

It is categorically not recommended for heart patients and people with respiratory problems (like asthma).

The excursion is € 50 (the ticket for the cable car is € 50 more, two ways), the excursions will be guaranteed with a minimum of 6 participants and confirmed on the day based on weather and volcanological conditions.
